1 Killed, 6 Injured In Chain-Reaction Crash

One person is dead and six others were injured in a chain-reaction crash involving two semi tractor trailers and nine motor vehicles Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the accidents happened on Highway 41 just south of Holy Hill Road just after 9 a.m.

Officials said a car traveling north hydroplaned on the wet highway, spinning into the path of an oncoming semi. The semi then crossed into the southbound lane, causing the chain reaction crash.

All lanes of the highway were closed after the accident. It took crews until about noon to reopen the northbound lanes, but the southbound lanes remained closed until about 6 p.m.

There had been periods of heavy rain just before the accident and the roads were soaked.

One of those injured was seriously injured, the other five were treated for minor injuries at nearby facilities and released.
