MADD Encourages Parents To Discuss All Possible Dangers Of Underaged Drinking With Teens

April 20, 2013 |

New information released from Mothers Against Drunk Driving shows that a bit more than two-thirds of all deaths associated with underaged drinking do not occur on the roads.

The group analyzed 2010 data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for deaths involving 15-to 20-year-old underaged drinkers. It showed 68 percent of the average 4,700 deaths related to underaged drinking were from homicides, suicides, alcohol poisonings, falls, drownings and burns, as well as other causes of death.

While it is important to discuss the dangers of drinking and driving with teens, MADD pointed out it is also important parents discuss the other dangers of underage drinking as well. MADD released the data as part of Alcohol Awareness Month.
