Drunk Driving Accidents During Summer

With Fourth of July now behind us, many Americans are still recovering from the long weekend and getting back to work. This time of year is a time for enjoying good weather, great company, and plenty of fun. For a lot of Americans, that means drinking alcohol. Beer and alcoholic beverages just seem to go together with parties and the Fourth of July – and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that. When people fail to drink responsibly, however, the results can be tragic.

According to statistics, the Fourth of July holiday is one of the most dangerous times of year on American roadways. This is because the holiday weekend typically sees a marked increase in the number of alcohol-related auto accidents, injuries and deaths. The summer also records higher rates of alcohol-related accidents than other times of year.

Preventing Drunk Driving Accidents

Because drunk driving accidents are such a serious concern during the Fourth of July, last weekend saw an increase in law enforcement patrols and checkpoints throughout the country. Officers in many states were on high alert for drunk drivers, and thousands of arrests were reported during the three-day weekend. Unfortunately, there were also a number of reported drunk driving injuries and deaths.

While enforcing the law is important, our legal team would like to remind everyone about the importance of drinking responsibly. If you plan on drinking and enjoying yourself this summer, please remember a few important tips:

  • Drink responsibly
  • Designate a sober driver before you drink
  • Use a cab or services like Uber to get home after you’ve been drinking
  • Remember that alcohol impairs judgment and slows reaction time

Drunk driving is an illegal, negligent, and extremely dangerous act – and it places others at risk of suffering preventable harm. When victims do suffer harm caused by drunk drivers, they typically have the right to recover compensation by filing a personal injury claim.

At Cannon & Dunphy S.C. we hope that everyone has a fun and safe summer. If you or your loved one has suffered preventable harm – including injuries sustained in auto accidents – our Milwaukee car accident lawyers are here to help.
