Cannon & Dunphy Wins $2.2M Verdict for Medical Malpractice Victim

The attorneys at Cannon & Dunphy S.C. won a $2.2 million verdict in a recent medical malpractice case. The victim was an 18-year-old young man who sustained a tibia fibula fracture. He sought treatment from a local orthopedic surgeon who surgically repaired the fracture. The young man was hospitalized for three days.

On the second day after the operation, nurses failed to call the doctor after multiple complaints of severe pain. The plaintiff’s pain complaints continued, and the pain became more severe because of the nurse’s failure to notify a doctor. The nurses’ oversight caused a delay in diagnosis of compartment syndrome.

Compartment syndrome is extremely painful and results from a buildup of pressure in the muscles. Increased pressure in the muscles can impede blood flow, which in turn means that essential nourishment and oxygen are not able to reach nerve and muscle cells.

Our client suffered significant muscle loss and scarring on the lower portion of his left leg due to the delay in diagnosis and treatment of his compartment syndrome.
