Last year manufacturers filed for more than 650 safety recalls, affecting more than 17.8 million vehicles, child seats and vehicle equipment according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Furthermore, the NHTSA influenced the recall of more than 9 million vehicles and 60,000 items of vehicle equipment, including tires and child safety seats.
According to the NHTSA, in the past three years, NHTSA’s investigations and testing have directly resulted in more than 430 recalls involving 22 million vehicles and products. Additionally, nearly 42,000 complaints from consumers pointing out possible safety defects also helps the NHTSA keep tabs on possible issues for consumers.
Since 1966, the NHTSA said its work has resulted in 17,000 recalls involving more than 500 million vehicles along with more than 84 million items of equipment.
