Patrick Dunphy Settles Second Case Against Badger Guns for Wounded Officers

June 27, 2016 |

Patrick Dunphy of Cannon & Dunphy S.C. represented two officers in a case Badger Guns, against a former gun shop in Milwaukee. According to an article published by theMilwaukee-WisconsinJournal Sentinel, Badger guns sold two firearms to a 24-year-old straw buyer (someone who purchases a gun for someone who cannot legally buy a firearm).

According to the suit, the gun shop broke federal law when it negligently sold firearms later used to harm the officers. The settlement occurred just a few days before a second jury selection was to begin.

The officers were shot while responding to a report of shots fired during a drug investigation on the south side of the city. Both law officers sustained serious injuries. One was forced to retire on duty disability not long after the incident occurred. The shooter obtained his weapon from the man who purchased from Badger Guns.

Additionally, the complaint stated that firearms sold by Badger guns were used against six officers in a 20-month period of time. Sources stated that the firearms should never have been sold to the original buyer because he had been convicted of drug possession prior to his purchase.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has revoked Badger Guns’ license. To learn more about the most recent case, read Journal Sentinel’s article.
