An article in the Wisconsin State Journal this week said Gov. Scott Walker has a plan to remove many mandatory requirements in place to detect fire-causing conditions.
Currently, builders must install arc-fault circuit-interrupter protection, ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection along with tamper-resistant recptacles in all new construction as well as in many types of remodels.
The new plan would make those devices optional. Some have expressed confusion because the cost of installing such devices is relatively small. Wisconsin’s Department of Safety and Professional Services is set to study the proposed changes as well as hold hearings and write new rules regarding them.
Questions have been raised about the reliability of the devices within homes already.
